What to Expect at your Photo Session

I design my sessions with you and your lifestyle in mind.

Relaxed. Fun. Easy.

Where do photo sessions take place?

I enjoy shooting in people’s homes because it’s a place where you can relax. Additionally, I prefer to shoot in places which are uniquely interesting to you and your family. I have been a professional photographer for 8 years in everything from bright natural light to dark spaces resembling closets. I utilize both natural and studio lighting. Therefore, I have the versatility to shoot most anywhere. If you don’t feel your home is conducive to a shoot and are uncertain of locations, never fear. I scout places all of the time and have a list in most zip codes of aesthetically pleasing places.

How long will the session take?

One hour is sufficient for most sessions (with the exception of newborns, which can take 2-3 hours). When it comes to young children, I understand attention span is limited. I taught public school, so I’m familiar that it can be as short as 8 seconds 🙂 I have fast cameras. However, I find that I work best when *I* am not rushed. If I sense that you’re tired and we pack up early, that’s fine. If we’re getting some good stuff at the end, I won’t set a timer and run you off either.

What if my baby/toddler/child/spouse is uncooperative?

I have encountered many situations in my experience both as a photographer and as a teacher. My experience enables me to calm the nerves of parents and children alike. I love kids and have a knack for making kids like me, too. I work quickly and efficiently while also keeping the shoot fun. In fact, after the session, so many people say, “Wow, that was fun!” I believe that photo sessions should be an opportunity for authentic connection and joyful interaction. And, I I love “real life” photographs. Some of my favorite photos are when the baby is tired and hanging on mom’s arm rubbing his eyes. I’ve made even the most resistant husband happy. The important thing is for you to relax. I promise.

What is your pricing? Do you offer digital files?

A single session fee is $400 and comes with a complimentary set of 4×6 prints (yes, real live professional prints you’ll hold in your hands and adore). I also offer custom albums and beautiful custom wall art. You receive the digital rights to any photo you purchase, as well as when you purchase an album. This session fee includes planning, equipment use, at least one roll of medium format film and processing, an ordering consultation, and the highest standard of quality, service, professionalism, and talent. You can bundle sessions to create custom packages, such as Maternity + Newborn or Baby’s First Year.

When will I see my images?

I prefer to do an in-person image review in your home when possible to show you samples of products available and brainstorm how you might display the artwork in your home. However, if time does not permit, I will email you a link to peruse your images at your leisure. Portrait session galleries are available online within 3 weeks for viewing and purchasing.

How many images will I receive?

Your session fee includes approximately 25 edited images for viewing and ordering, as well as a complimentary set of 4×6 gift prints.

When do I pay for my session?

$150 non-refundable reservation fee confirms your space in my calendar. The remaining balance is due on the date of your session unless otherwise arranged. Cash, check, or PayPal via amber@ambershumake.com are viable payment options. All pricing is subject to 8.25% sales tax. And a 2.9% service charge will be added for PayPal payments made with credit card. This charge does not apply to debit card purchases. Payments for prints and products are due at the time the order is placed.

How will I order my images?

If you feel it would be helpful to sit down together and order prints and choose the photos for your albums, I am more than happy to do that with you. In fact, I truly enjoy it, and it’s included in the cost of your session fee. However, given that life is busy, it’s not always possible. At the end of your session, I will show you the products I offer. You can order at that time or wait to see your photos before committing to a product, that is fine, too. You will receive a set of 4×6 prints about four weeks after your session and can easily choose your products after viewing your images. I’ll order the images for you through a professional lab whom I trust and ensure perfect color, cropping, etc. Everything you order will be shipped or hand delivered to your door. Easy!

How do I book a session?

You can book a session by sending me an email at amber@ambershumake.com or by visiting my contact page.

I look forward to working with you!
