a courthouse wedding | fort worth elopement

They contacted me to take some photos at the Fort Worth Water Gardens – after they eloped. And, I was happy to oblige, but I confessed, “I’ve always wanted to photograph a courthouse wedding.” They agreed, and I was so grateful. I don’t think I slept much the night before. The Fort Worth Courthouse is so beautiful, inside and out – as are these two. She’s a Lululemon yogini. He’s a crossfitting litigator. They met by chance – or was it divine design? – in Dallas. Together, they recently moved to the Fort. And on a beautiful Friday morning, they married, with me as their witness. What a dream!

a san diego engagement | san diego photographer

I got married in this very spot – Sunset Cliffs in San Diego – on November 1st. It’s absolutely one of my favorite places on this earth. I visit at least a few times a year to take photographs and teach and love on my family and remember why I am here. Is it arrogant to blog your own wedding? Luke Robert Miller photographed it, and it was amazing. Hands down, the best day of my life so far, and I’ve been blessed to experience much magic through the years. Maybe I’ll share the story some day. But, about a month before the wedding, I sent my brother a couple of pinterest photographs of a chuppah and some old doors that I thought might be cool to use in our ceremony. I think I said, “Do you think this would even be possible?” It was a pipe dream, or so I thought. Within a few days, after several trips to Home Depot and antique stores, he and his partner had created them. It was the kindest gift ever. And I couldn’t figure out how to repay them. But, for years, they’ve asked me to take some holiday photos for them. It’s a standing joke in the family, “Can you fly out to take our Christmas card photo?” And so this year, I found a cheap fare, and I did just that. Those waves never cease to take my breath away.

moondance : a ranch engagement | fort worth wedding photographer

I get a bad rap from my friends about my obsession with Van Morrison. I just love his songs – like all of them…even the obscure ones you’ve never heard. And as I was editing this stunning ranch engagement, I thought of the song, “Moondance.” Many of my yoga friends follow the astrology patterns and moon phases with fervor. I’m more apt to stay up all night writing or editing photos and then realize as dawn breaks, “Oh, it’s a full moon…that explains it.”

We had to reschedule this shoot a couple times due to the weather, but I’m so glad we got the day we did. That light. That moon. This beautiful couple. All of it alchemized to create some amazing art.

He’s a 5th grade teacher. Isn’t that cute? And anybody who’s spent any stretch of time in a public school, hospital, institution of any sort knows that the crazies come out to play on a full moon. What a blessing to spend an evening with these two – who are anything but crazy…except in love. They’ll marry in June. Clearly, the dogs are excited. And I can’t wait.
