His momma is the creatrix of My Sweet Roots, a local and organic made-to-order-and-deliver food service in Fort Worth. Her food is healthy and amazing, and she caters, too. Check it out. Recently, I put up a post asking if any of my friends would be willing to keep my hound dog, Cash Diehl, while we were out of town. He had an appointment at the local boarding resort, but he’s a snuggler and just doesn’t like going for long stretches of time. She was the first responder. What a gem. Because Cash Diehl is a handful, lemme tell ya. The day before our wedding she sent me a photo of him standing on her dining room table. I kid you not.

She calls him “Boy Bird.” He melts my heart. Cash Diehl loved Boy Bird. And Boy Bird loved him. Boy Bird’s gonna be a big brother soon. I can’t wait to photograph them next year when there’s four.

There was a moment when Dad thought he wouldn’t get off work. “It might just be a Mommy and Me shoot,” she texted. But, I’m so glad we made it work because you’ve gotta love a dad who knows exactly what to do to make his kid laugh. I love the “work” I do.

Over ten years ago, his mother hired me to teach 7th grade English. It’s fascinating to see how she and I are different and how we’ve stayed the same. Time has brought much change. Ten years ago seems in some ways another lifetime to me. Life’s trajectory is so beautiful when we pause to see the grand scheme. Four weeks ago, she and her husband adopted this guy. The Gladney Center called on Monday. He came home on Friday. Four days to prepare – can you image?! What a blessing he is.

Her name is Grace. And the name suits her. And I’ve been blessed to photograph her since she was in the womb. She keeps this family laughing. And just when I think she can’t get any cuter, she picks up a dog as a donkey plays in the background. That’s just a typical day at the ranch for her. I revel at every opportunity I get to put my boots on and trudge out to photograph these three.

celebrating 70 years of life | Fort Worth photographer

This sweet family asked me to photograph a 70th birthday in the Texas Hill Country at Chinquapin Ranch and by the end of the weekend, I felt as if I had a whole new family. With the wonderful outdoor springs and indoor games, there was much to keep the kids and adults alike busy. Each night boasted beautiful concerts each night from a group of musicians who’ve been playing together for decades. And, they lacked a drummer, which my second shooter and partner in life happens to be.
